Shillong's sights are scattered in three directions - the city lakes and museums in the middle, Elephant Falls and the viewpoints up the Upper Shillong road, and Laitlum Canyon out on the far eastern ridge - so the difference between a good sightseeing day and a wasted one is mostly the order you drive it in. That is what you get here: a full-day car with a Shillong driver who plans the loop around light, traffic and how the clouds are sitting on Laitlum that morning.

The car stays with you all day, waits at every stop, and the quote covers fuel, parking and the driver - there is no meter running while you walk to a viewpoint. Tell the driver what you care about and the day bends to it: more time in the Don Bosco Museum galleries, a longer lunch at Police Bazar, or skipping the museum entirely for an extra hour above the canyon.

On the way

Umiam Lake (Barapani)

The big reservoir viewpoint on the Guwahati road, best kept for late afternoon

Shillong Local Sightseeing taxi - FAQ

Updated August 2026

What does a full-day Shillong sightseeing taxi cover?+

The usual loop is Laitlum Canyon early, then Elephant Falls and Shillong View Point on the Upper Shillong road, Ward's Lake, Lady Hydari Park and the Don Bosco Museum in the middle of the day, and Umiam Lake for the late-afternoon light - with lunch at Police Bazar or a cafe on the way. Six to eight stops fit comfortably in 8-9 hours; the driver adjusts the order on the day.

How is the taxi charged - per stop or per day?+

Per day, as one all-inclusive quote. Fuel, parking and the driver are inside it, the car waits at every stop, and there is no meter and nothing added at the end. WhatsApp +91 98637 89990 with your date and group size for the exact figure - it depends on the vehicle and season.

Is one day enough for Shillong sightseeing?+

For the city itself, yes - one well-ordered day covers the canyon, the falls, the lakes and a museum without rushing. What it does not cover is Cherrapunji or Dawki; those are separate full days each, and we run both as day trips from Shillong.

Which car should we take for a family?+

A Dzire sedan works for up to four. Five to seven people should take an Ertiga or one of our Innovas - the museum-and-viewpoint day involves a lot of getting in and out, and the extra space matters more than on a highway run. Bigger groups get a 12 or 17-seat Tempo Traveller.

Can Laitlum Canyon and Umiam Lake both fit in one day?+

Yes - they anchor opposite ends of the loop. Laitlum is best early, before the cloud lifts off the valley floor, and Umiam is best after 3 pm when the light comes across the water. Doing them in that order is exactly why a driver who knows the city beats a fixed itinerary.

Do you also do half-day sightseeing?+

Yes. A half day covers either the city cluster - Ward's Lake, Don Bosco, Cathedral, Police Bazar - or the Upper Shillong side with Elephant Falls and the viewpoint. Tell us what time you are free and we will suggest which half fits it.
